This is a TWO DAY workshop. You MUST REGISTER AND ATTEND BOTH DAYS. The Basic Book Workshop offers two days of hands-on training. Participants gain knowledge of how a book is constructed and will learn appropriate repair techniques for book and paper repair. Sources for supplies and how to create a book repair area will be discussed. Students will learn skills for mending a torn page, repairing worn hinges, gluing in loose pages, replacing a damaged spine, replacing endpapers, and sewing a pamphlet into binders. This training is for staff and supervisors who repair books in the general and circulating collections. (We will not cover repairs for items that are rare, in Special Collections, or are very fragile.) People who are currently repairing books may learn new techniques. Participants will receive a kit to take back to their library!
