SUMMARY:Why Libraries Need Fewer Ideas and Better Innovation Decisions
DESCRIPTION:Libraries are frequently encouraged to innovate\, experiment\, and try new approaches. In practice\, many of these efforts stall or create unintended strain\, not because the ideas lack merit\, but because we rarely have a disciplined way to decide what kind of innovation we are attempting in the first place. \nThis interactive virtual session introduces a practical\, research-informed framework for understanding different modes of innovation and the distinct thinking each one requires. Participants will explore why copying ideas may not produce desired impact\, how misaligned expectations undermine good work\, and how to slow down decision making before time\, energy\, and capital are lost. \nJay Turner\nJay Turner is the founder of LibraryHR\, an enterprise service of EduJay LLC\, focused on workforce\, leadership\, and organizational development in libraries. He brings nearly 20 years of experience working in public library environments across a range of public services and administrative roles\, combined with almost a decade of consulting with library systems\, consortia\, and governing boards across the United States. \nIn addition to his library career\, Jay spent over seven years at the American Red Cross\, working within a large national organization navigating crisis response\, organizational change\, and cross-functional coordination. He has also held roles in corporate environments\, giving him perspective on how different sectors approach decision making\, accountability\, and innovation. \nJay’s work is grounded in a deep understanding of how libraries operate within governance structures\, political context\, risk management realities\, and limited resources. His facilitation style blends disciplined frameworks with practical application\, helping participants make clearer decisions and move change efforts forward with intention.

SUMMARY:Building a Stronger Team with Lessons from Geese
DESCRIPTION:Okay\, this may be the first time you’ve ever heard the idea of learning from geese 😊. We likely all recognize that there are many things Mother Nature can teach us\, so why not pay attention to how birds journey through life as an example of how we should behave with others? The more we think “outside the box” as the old saying goes\, the more opportunity we have to make sure our own journey is the best it can be. Don’t miss this fun session – I promise you will have new insight into how to build a stronger team! \nLinda Bruno\nLinda has been developing and conducting training for libraries for more than fifteen years. Her favorite thing to do is to help people become their best selves! That’s why she offers webinars and tutorials on topics ranging from Leadership Skills to Emotional Intelligence – and lots of areas in between.

SUMMARY:Say What? Communicating More Effectively with Others
DESCRIPTION:Communication skills are some of the most important skills that you need to develop to be successful in the workplace and in life. We are constantly communicating! Join Andrew for this interactive and informative program and leave with takeaway tips and techniques you can use at work\, at home or wherever you go! Participants will learn and begin to master: Techniques for being more effective in the 4 key areas of communication; The Channel of Communication: How to use it more effectively; How to give directions that people will understand the first time; The art\, skill and benefits of being an active listener; Two questions to ask that build relationships and respect. \nAndrew Sanderbeck\nAndrew Sanderbeck is a respected presenter\, coach and consultant. He has worked with library organizations for more than 20 years. SUMMARY:Beyond the Burnout: Leading Libraries Out of Grind Culture
DESCRIPTION:In library service\, “doing more with less” has quietly shifted from a temporary challenge to a permanent reality for many libraries. For library leaders\, grind culture manifests as burnout\, silent resentment\, and the unspoken expectation that staff can continue to keep everything moving smoothly. This presentation examines how these habits erode institutional trust and staff retention. We will move beyond the “self-care” narrative and focus on how we can move the organization forward while respecting boundaries. \nBy the end of this presentation\, you will: \n\nIdentify specific library “grind” markers in your organization.\nUnderstand practical policy shifts to reset norms around workload\, availability\, and “always-on” expectations.\nDevelop tools for building a sustainable\, human-centered workplace that honors productivity and staff well-being.\n\nElaina Norlin \nElaina Norlin is currently the Professional Development Coordinator for the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries. She is an accomplished teacher\, technology and leadership development trainer and writer with extensive leadership experience and a flair for public relations\, sales and communications. To date\, she has delivered over 40 workshops\, training sessions\, presentations and institutes both nationally and internationally on marketing\, web usability design\, facilitation\, strategic influence and conflict management. Self motivated and results oriented\, she is well known for my ability to juggle many projects at once. SUMMARY:Supporting Local Businesses – The Libraries as Launchpads Method
DESCRIPTION:Libraries are uniquely positioned to support aspiring business owners. They have always been about more than just books; expanding access to knowledge\, tools\, and opportunity. Just as the printing press once revolutionized access to information and fueled the growth of libraries\, today libraries continue to play a critical role in ensuring communities have equitable access to technology\, digital skills\, and business support. \nAt their core\, libraries break down barriers and create pathways for people to succeed\, including those ready to launch and grow businesses in their communities. \nJoin us to explore how your library can more effectively support entrepreneurs and small business owners. This session will include practical steps\, hands-on activities\, and frameworks you can use to develop goals that reflect your local context\, along with an opportunity to experience elements of the entrepreneurial journey firsthand. \nAll attendees will receive a PDF of Libraries as Launchpads’ Guide to Supporting Local Entrepreneurs: A Workbook for Librarians\, a practical tool to help position your library as a resource for entrepreneurs and small business owners in your community. \nGinny Sterpka\nGinny Sterpka is a capacity-building strategist focused on strengthening the systems that support sustainable livelihoods. As co-founder of Libraries as Launchpads\, she grew the initiative into a bi-national network of more than 90 Entrepreneurship Librarians across the U.S. and Canada\, helping position libraries as vital entry points for expanded access to opportunity. \nHer work is shaped by her own path as a creative entrepreneur. With a multidisciplinary background spanning landscape and architectural design\, environmental planning\, display design\, and product design and prototyping. This lived experience informs her commitment to building practical\, accessible systems where creative talent can translate into thriving livelihoods.”

SUMMARY:Building Your Confidence Muscle to Build a Stronger Team
DESCRIPTION:If you look up the definition of confidence\, you’ll see something along the lines of “self-assurance” or a mention of appreciating our own abilities and qualities. Perhaps it seems that should be a given in the library world\, considering we are surrounded by knowledge. But maybe being surrounded by all that knowledge is exactly WHY our confidence muscle can atrophy! Because even though we know 😊\, just one somewhat-negative interaction with a patron can leave our confidence muscle bruised and a little worse for wear. Let’s talk about how we can apply first aid and get that muscle back to full strength. By doing that\, we can make our team even stronger than it already is! Don’t miss this opportunity for growth that will serve you well in all aspects of your life!
