Lori Driver and Ava Iuliano conducted a discussion during the ALA Annual 2011 regarding the merging of service points. The trend of merging services to a single point or ‘Info Commons’ model has been sweeping academic libraries across the nation. Unfortunately, there are as many iterations of the Info Commons models as there are libraries. This discussion resulted in informal revelation of both theoretical and practical issues in transitioning to the new library model. Unanticipated issues, difficulties in establishing and maintaining academic partnerships, and implications to the collection are some of the many topics discussed. Lori and Ava will provide a literature review as well as a review of the discussion. Finishing with summary points and an overview of future research plans, the presenters wish to provide insight into the complications of library models in transition.
