Redefining Reluctant Readers (Online) (NEFLIN)

Monday, March 7, 2:00 – 4:00 pm
What counts as reading? Who decides – the reader or the observer? In this webinar, participants will examine definitions and societal beliefs about reading, literacy, and literary formats. In the educational sector, it has long been agreed that varying learning styles exist, and yet, “alternative” formats such as audio books and graphic novels continue to be dismissed and not considered “reading.” Participants will explore these issues and learn ways to redefine, reach, and “turn into readers” even the most reluctant patrons and students in their libraries and schools. Common pitfalls will be replaced with immediately implementable marketing, collection development, reader’s advisory, and programming ideas for tweens and teens (as well as adults) previously labeled as “non-readers.”
Virtual Trainer: Jenine  Lillian, Consultant, Librarian, and author of Cool Teen Programs for under $100
